Hunter Biden has been left without a home after the Pacific Palisades fire destroyed his rental property, he said in court papers.
As revealed in The Swamp, the Daily Beast’s weekly newsletter, Biden has fallen on hard times, saying in the court filing that his income has “decreased significantly” since late 2023.
The fires that ravaged California in January left his rental house “unlivable for an extended period of time” and he said he was having difficulty finding “a new permanent place to live.”
“This significant decrease in revenue has also impacted my ability to pay off my significant debt, which as has been reported in the press as being several million dollars,” he said in the filing.
“As a result of this,” he added. “I am not in a position where I can borrow money.”
Biden, 55, said his previous income came largely from sales of his art and his memoir, Beautiful Things.
Before December 2023, he said he sold 27 pieces of art at an average price of $54,481.48, but since then he has sold only one piece of art for $36,000.
Similarly, his book sales dropped from 3,161 in the six months up to September 2023 to just 1,100 books in the following six months.
“Given the positive feedback and reviews of my artwork and memoir, I was expecting to obtain paid speaking engagements and paid appearances, but that has not happened.”
Biden opened up while asking a federal judge on Wednesday to dismiss a lawsuit against a former aide of Donald Trump over the tampering with of emails from a laptop attributed to him. He asked U.S. District Judge Hernan D. Vera to dismiss his 2023 lawsuit against Garret Ziegler.
Ziegler was an aide to Peter Navarro, Trump’s trade adviser. Ziegler had dismissed the lawsuit as “frivolous.”
