I'll be heading to the polls two weeks before that.

As soon as the early voting booth locations are announced, I'll be casting my vote (for my local Labor representative).

But how would that stop Albo's mass immigration policies?

Compared to what, Dutton?

While Dutton was tough on asylum seekers and visa cancellations, he still presided over high overall migration levels, particularly in temporary migration. His current criticism of high migration under Labor is somewhat at odds with his own record, don't you think?

Calling all Australian Patriots -

let's do our best on Ozpolitic to turn Albo into a one term loser.

The last time an Australian federal government served only one term was in 1931, when the Labor government led by Prime Minister James Scullin lost office after being elected in 1929.

Scullin’s government took power on October 22, 1929, following the federal election held on October 12, 1929, but faced significant challenges due to the onset of the Great Depression. The economic crisis led to internal party divisions and a loss of public support, culminating in its defeat at the election held on December 19, 1931.

The United Australia Party , led by Joseph Lyons, won a landslide victory, ending Scullin’s term after just over two years.

Since then, no Australian federal government has been limited to a single term, making the Scullin government the most recent example as of March 28, 2025.

First-term governments have typically been re-elected, with the closest exceptions being cases like the 2010 election, where the Labor government under Julia Gillard (following Kevin Rudd’s ousting) was returned but only as a minority government, not a one-term loss.

The rarity of one-term federal governments underscores the historical trend of incumbency advantage in Australian politics.

And under Dutton?  He'll say the borders are closed but will still import the workforce to keep local wages down.

At least the bump in NOM under Albo and Labor has been to fill shorted while still delivering on higher wages for workers.

SB, beyond memes and recycled slogans, how exactly do you quantify the supposed economic devastation Labor has inflicted, especially when institutions like the IMF have praised their management and they’ve delivered surpluses without resorting to austerity?

You’re making grand claims, yet offering nothing but the hollow echoes of partisan talking points.

Care to substantiate your argument, or is regurgitation the extent of your economic analysis?

It was a master stroke from Dutton with the fuel excise cut. He really cut Albo's feet out from under him with his ridiculous $5 a week tax cut in 15 months down the track (if it ever happens). That alone will gain Dutton a lot of votes. This election will be about one thing only - cost of living. On that front, Labor has failed dismally and I predict Dutton will win enough to govern in majority. He may even win control of both Houses.

Just look at the cost of groceries now compared to three years ago. Look at the cost of electricity now compared to three years ago. Look at the lack of bulk billing now compared to three years ago. That's just a few examples of Labor's incompetence driving up the cost of living and with it, inflation.

Did you watch his Budget Reply last night?  -

he said he was going to limit immigration.

Albo will increase it - even when there is already nowhere for
100s of 1000s of  people to live.

It's a shame because the conservative style of austerity for us and trickle-down for them that Dutton will implement is only going to make things worse and undo the positive trajectory the economy is on.

It's a brilliant move by him and Labor have been terrible their entire term at championing the great work they've been doing.

They've let the Libs and Murdoch control the narrative and paint them as doing nothing to help people.

I wonder if there is enough time to correct that, I don't think so.

The inflation is caused by the reckless RBA printing money
to pay for Govt Bonds.

$1 trillion printed in the last 10 years or more.
They never so no to printing money to cover the Govt Bonds.
That's how Govts go into debt.

Dutton should go one step further from his cuts to migration and put a hold on permitting foreigners buying residential property in Australia. That's what's having a huge impact on the rental and house sales markets. Too few houses available for rent with too many people looking for a place to rent.

Don't have to paint them - it's true. Look at bulk billing and his promise of GP super clinics. He has failed at both. Look at his broken promise on electricity bills. At least Dutton has a genuine plan for that other than a handout - a gas reservation policy will help in bringing down electricity prices whereas Albo's rebates do nothing.

Units and apartments went up 14% the last 8 months in a suburb next to mine.
(SE Melbourne)
People will pay anything to get a humble roof over their head.
50 or 60 people line up to rent a little one bedroom flat at high rental prices.

Albo doesn't care about people at all,  at all,  at all.
