NRL cancel “welcome to country “
Apr 25th, 2025 at 9:26pm

“ Storm’s Welcome to Country ‘cancelled’ at last minute, says Indigenous elder
Aunty Joy Murphy
Indigenous groups say they have been left dumbfounded and distressed after the Welcome to Country at Melbourne Storm’s Anzac Day NRL match was cancelled at the last minute.”

https://www.smh.com.au/national/victoria/boos-shatter-hush-of-melbourne-s-anzac-...

Anonymous sources within the NRL suggested it was to stop the booing that was expected from the entire crowd.
Other sources suggested “ Australian people are just sick of constantly being welcomed into their own country and the booing will only continue to get louder “.

SNAFU - they're always dumbfounded and distressed... it's a side effect of the booze and the violence etc.

Ooooh - I smell spin here - "a group including a known Neo-Nazi interrupted the welcome to country" at the dawn service ... it then becomes "a group of neo-Nazis" for purposes of spin ....... bring on the water works... raise the spectre of Hitler ...

WTC (Woeful Tantrum Carping) has no place on Anzac Day.... welcome to the world the Diggers won for you ... love it or leave it.

Albo wants that bloke prosecuted to the full extent of the law - which law, Antonio?  Being disruptive in a public place?  Being out of touch with the sentiment of the day?  Jeez - the Three Amigo speakers mumbling welcome to country would be charged with that... you'd be hung for it on a daily basis....   Cool

Welcome to Country
Fees for Welcomes to Country and Smoking Ceremonies are generally set by Land Councils, community organisations or individuals such as local Elders or representatives, the below is a guide only.

Fees may be higher for out of business hours or on days of significance
Travel and food is an additional cost
Cultural Practice
Range Guide
Welcome to Country
$300-$750
Smoking Ceremony
$700-$1,500

A commercial decision?

Trump derangement syndrome
Fareed Zakaria defined the term as "hatred of President Trump so intense that it impairs people's judgment"

I don't have an issue with welcome to country but something like rugby or football I think it would be more appropriate to have a welcome to country for the first match of the season only. Either the leagues or just the first home match for each team.

What needs to be ironed out by first nation peoples is are we really welcome or not.

So it was written down by settlers? A journal perhaps? If not, anyone alive from 1835 to tell us?

A news.com.au poll on Saturday with nearly 50,000 responses found readers overwhelmingly agree.

Asked, “How do you feel about Welcome to Country ceremonies?”, 65 per cent said “they should stop completely”.

Twenty-three per cent said “there should be less” and 8 per cent said “there is the right amount”.

Just 4 per cent said “there should be more”

WTC is nonsense, as are the Aboriginal flag and the Torres flag.

Anzac Day is the anniversary of the Gallipoli landing. A significant event in Australian history, and so it is regarded as a fitting marker for the thanksgiving to all Australians and allies who have served in the ADF and its many supporting organisations. Such people include Aborigines and all sorts of ethnicities, brought together by their commitment to and sacrifice for Australia and its people.

It has absolutely nothing to do with tribal Aboriginal territorialism, clannishness, superstition, fabricated nationhood, useless elders presiding over the unspeakable degradation and brutalisation of their women and children or the rest of the nonsense WTC purports to invent and cement into the national consciousness.

It is a testament to the cloth-eared arrogance of Aboriginal fabricators of history that they persist with this obvious nonsense. There was a referendum and a year long debate about this Aboriginal sovereignty bollocks and it has been decisevely rejected. So don't ignore that rejection and insist on inserting this nonsense into every occasion.

It is a shame that Aborigines do not hear the booing of the referendum and now the booing at Anzac Day.

I believe from their page it was recorded in 2016 unless you have something earlier to show us. Or perhaps you believe everything people say on their web pages.

OK Thanks. Now show it was Australia wide.

I looked for a video of the First Fleet entering Sydney Harbour 1788 but can't find one. There seemed to be more spear-waving than welcomes for some reason.
Warami budyari naady'unya Dharug Ngurrawa  'hello, welcome, good to see you on Dharug Country'. Sydney region.

William Dawes' notebooks on the Aboriginal language of Sydney  from 1790-1791 .

Ask Brendan Kerin - the racist part Aboriginal activist who did the WTC at the AFL Grand Final last year.

He reckons they've been doing them since 250,000 years BC (before Cook) and they aren't for the benefit of white people.

Never mind that it's 180,000 years before modern humans left Africa  - they hadn't even fully evolved then.

Brendan must have also forgot who was paying for his so called (unwelcome) WTC & if it wasn't for white peoples benefit why was he doing it and taking the money?

Welcome to Country was popularised by Ernie Dingo and Richard Walley in the mid 1970's when they were asked by a  touring Pacific Island dance troupe  for a traditional welcome or they wouldn't perform.

Since then it's become all the rage by Aboriginal groups & is now claimed to be an ancient tradition. Grin
