Arms or troop reduction treaties.
Apr 27th, 2021 at 7:38pm

I see the world perched at the start of a new huge war.
It could be over Taiwan or maybe over Iran or
Russia in the Ukraine -
or all of the above?

There is too much money and time spent on weapons in this world.
I don’t like it –
It places all of us in danger and the United Nations
has absolutely failed to slow down the arms race.
The world is armed to the teeth like never before in history.
The weapons flooding the Middle East and also South East Asia
should have caused alarm 20 years ago.
The useless UN and the politicians did nothing –
I am not aware of any arms or troop reduction treaties?

Someone said we could not judge a person's Aboriginality on their skin colour.  Why isn't that applied in the matter of Pascoe?  Tsk, tsk, tsk...   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Bobby you raise an interesting point but fail to sheet the blame where it belongs.  You should be attack Trump, not the UN.  Trump dismantled quite a few arms control treaties he disagreed with.   The UN has no power to make nation's agree to any treaty.  All observance has to come from the nation itself.  Trump decided that he didn't agree with being limited, so he scrapped the treaties.   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Come on Brian -
I didn't start this thread up to blame Trump for everything.

Also - it wasn't me who made bad posts on this thread - it was the usual culprits.

The United Nations has to at least speak about this terrible arms race -
it will lead to our destruction if it's not stopped.

The world's attention turns to the South China Sea as Washington sends a number of warships into the geopolitically crucial region in what some observes deem a show of force to Beijing. China considers Taiwan to be integral to its national existence and looks to Washington's continuing overtures to the precarious island country with growing alarm. Meanwhile, a British aircraft carrier and other warships have been dispatched to the Pacific, and others have been deployed to the Black Sea as a show of "solidarity" with Ukraine. RT America's Alex Mihailovich reports for the News with Rick Sanchez.

If you are intent on spouting Chinese and Russian propaganda, you've lost me, Bobby.  If you want to lambaste the UN feel free to do so but you need to back up your attack with some facts.  Understand? Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Britain is sending a huge naval force through some of the most tense waters in Asia

https://edition.cnn.com/2021/04/26/europe/uk-aircraft-carrier-strike-group-asia-...

By Brad Lendon, CNN

Updated 0656 GMT (1456 HKT) April 27, 2021

The full UK Carrier Strike Group assembled for the first time during Group Exercise 2020 in October.

...
The aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth leads a flotilla from the UK, US and the Netherlands.

Hong Kong (CNN)The largest naval flotilla assembled by Britain in recent years will set sail in May on a months' long voyage through the Pacific, the country's Defense Ministry said Monday.
"When our Carrier Strike Group (CSG) sets sail next month, it will be flying the flag for Global Britain -- projecting our influence, signaling our power, engaging with our friends and reaffirming our commitment to addressing the security challenges of today and tomorrow," UK Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said Monday.

"The UK is not stepping back but sailing forth to play an active role in shaping the international system of the 21st century," Wallace said.

The strike group will be led by the aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth, marking its maiden deployment. The ship, one of the UK's two aircraft carriers, is the largest warship the UK has ever sent to sea.

Joining the carrier will be two destroyers, two anti-submarine frigates, a submarine and two auxiliary supply ships, a ministry statement said.

A United States Navy guided-missile destroyer will sail with the group as well as a frigate from the Netherlands that will be tasked with air defense, the ministry said.
Air power within the group will be centered on RAF F-35B stealth fighters and US Marine Corps F-35Bs, all of which will fly from the deck of the 65,000-ton aircraft carrier.

Some people don't like the RT America news:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RT_America

Quote:
RT America is a U.S.-based pay television and internet-based[1] news channel which is part of the RT network, a global multilingual television news network based in Moscow, Russia, funded and controlled by the Russian government.[2][3][4]

The channel is registered as a "foreign agent" with the United States Department of Justice under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA). A 2017 report by the United States Intelligence Community characterized RT as "The Kremlin's principal international propaganda outlet" and said that RT America had been set up as an autonomous nonprofit organization to avoid FARA's registration requirement.[5][6] RT America claims that it reaches 85 million people in the United States, but this figure is disputed.

I feel it would be better to argue any points on their merit.

Without Australian exports to China and imports from China, the Australian economy would collapse.
