A Pakistani Muslim driver, Zain Khan, 26, has been charged with murder

and attempted murder after he allegedly killed an elderly motorist and injured several others when he slammed into cars and a crowd of pedestrians in Melbourne‘s CBD.
Khan was on Saturday night charged with one count of murder, three counts of attempted murder, three counts of intentionally cause serious injury and two counts of conduct endangering life.
He allegedly drove his mother’s white Toyota sedan down Bourke St and into a crowd of pedestrians before colliding with two other vehicles at about 6.20pm on Friday.

In short: Zain Khan, 26, faced Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday after allegedly crashing into cars and pedestrians in Melbourne's CBD in September last year.
Mr Khan pleaded not guilty to murder, and the court heard the accused could potentially be facing psychiatric or mental health difficulties.
What's next? Mr Khan's lawyers successfully applied for the matter to be fast-tracked through to Supreme Court, where a hearing will take place on February 2.

The man accused of driving dangerously through the Melbourne CBD in September last year, in a deadly incident in which pedestrians and motorists were struck, has pleaded not guilty and will now face a trial in the Supreme Court.

Zain Khan, 26, was allegedly behind the wheel of a Toyota sedan that crashed into cars and pedestrians at a tram stop, leading to the death of John Haasz and injuries to five others.

Police evidence kept under wraps until trial.
